History of the Arkley Club

The Arkley Club was founded in 1902 and was initially called The Arkley Working Men’s Club. It was set up as a place for the local men working on the Arkley country estates to socialize after work and keep them as close to their workplace as possible.

After the Second World War, it was decided that the name should be changed to reflect that not all the local men would be in work as many were returning home from service so in 1946 the club then became The Arkley Men’s Club.

It stayed this way until 2002 when the club became The Arkley Club, showing that with modern attitudes and influences, the Club and its facilities were open for everyone to join in, irrespective of gender, class, or nationality.

So here we are today, in a fast-moving modern Arkley, with a Club that we are proud of, and still as keen as ever to remain part of and serve the local community.
